If you are feeling low, disappointed, or demotivated, then meditate upon Hanuman. Working like Hanuman can bring you satisfaction and glory that lives forever.
On the day of the coronation, Sri Rama Chandra wanted to honour all those who supported him through his journey in the forest and at Lanka. Amongst them, there is someone who deserved a special honour. He did not mention who it is but asked Sitha Devi to do the special honours. He gave her the beautiful pearl necklace that was adorned on him by Vayu Deva as a gift from Indra. He hinted her about three key attributes, and asked her to do the special honours to the one who has such qualifications.
What are the three key qualifications that got Hanuman the special honour from Sitha Devi?
powrusham vikramaha buddhihi yasmin e:thaani sarvasaha
prade:hi: subhage: ha:ram yasya thushta:thi bha:mini
The first characteristic is Powrusham (purusha prayatna), readiness to begin efforts. When you have a task in hand, the energy, enthusiasm and the readiness to begin executing is the first characteristic that one must possess. Laziness is not seen in the dictionary of achievers. As soon as elders reminded Hanuman about his abilities, he did not wait to take up the humungous task of crossing the 100 yojanas of sea to Lanka.
The second characteristic is Vikramaha, perseverance till the end. It’s often the case for most people to give up after a hurdle or two. It does not matter if you stop after two steps or ten steps, if you do not stay determined till the end of your goal, the task will remain incomplete. Hanuman completed the humungous task that he set out for.
The third characteristic is Buddhi, wisdom. It’s not only important to stay persistent, but also important to work wisely. The way one handles an obstacle is an art. Each type of obstacle requires a different strategy and technique to overcome. Hanuman faced several obstacles on the way to Lanka. Mynaka, Surasa, Simhika, Lankini (each was an obstacle on his path; different types of desires taking your attention away,
some may seem friendly and others unfriendly, but they are all still obstacles. Being aware of what is obstructing you and how you handle it is a great skill in itself). After overcoming all such obstacles, one faces a final and the biggest obstacle – Ravana (the manas; if one handles it well, then everything works in favour of the task in hand).
Sitha Devi immediately honoured Hanuman who pioneered the bridge between Sitha and Rama. He gracefully accepted it, adored it with deepest devotion and respects. There is an anecdote on how Hanuman crushed each pearl of the necklace to see if it has Sri Rama Chandra in it and then disregarded it. That is not true. Hanuman considered even a dried-up twig of a flower or thulasi that is adorned to Rama and touched by Sitha Devi to be divine. It did not matter to him what the object is, all that mattered is through whom it reached him.
Hanuman remained a hero in the hearts of millions of people, because of the three qualifications. Sundara Kanda of Srimad Ramayanam is therefore chanted in every temple and in most households till today and will be chanted forever!
If you need an inspiration to progress in anything, as simple as a daily routine work or a challenging task, meditate upon Hanuman and check for yourself how well it works on you!
